Deaf Services

Alpha Hospital Bury has highly specialised services for men and women who are Deaf and require low or medium secure care. 

The Deaf service for men provides assessment and treatment for patients from the age of 18 years upwards in both medium and low secure settings, and the service for Deaf women, which is the only Deaf service for women available in the UK, is provided for patients from the age of 18 years in a medium secure setting.

The services are highly specialised and offer culturally sensitive treatment for Deaf patients with mental disorders. Staff are highly skilled in British Sign Language (BSL) and the services are well known for innovation and development within the field.

There are three specialist secure services for Deaf patients:

• Medium secure services for Deaf men with mental disorders
• Medium secure services for Deaf women with mental disorders
• Low secure services for Deaf men with mental disorders
